Jack Grealish is looking for Aston Villa to build on their strong start to the Premier League season when they travel to face West Ham United on Monday night.

Villa have won five of their eight league games, winning all three away games without conceding a goal ahead of the trip to the London Stadium.

Grealish is keen for the team to put the Brighton result behind them and maintain their positive momentum on the road.

Speaking to VillaTV this week, he said: “We are still in the top half of the table, so we just have to build on what we’ve started.

“I’m going into it looking to build on my goals and assists, and of course the main thing is to get the three points.

“I don’t look at statistics too much, I know myself that I’ve had a good start and as a club we know that as well.”

Grealish and Barkley v Liverpool

Ross Barkley has played a key role in Villa’s start to the campaign, with his hamstring injury suffered against Brighton thankfully not as bad as first feared.

Grealish was influential in the deal to bring the midfielder to the club and he hopes to continue a fruitful partnership on the pitch as soon as possible.

“It’s been really good; I’ve known Ross for a while now,” he explained.

“Before he came, I was constantly texting him, before the Fulham game I was saying to him that if he was going to leave [Chelsea] then to keep us in mind.

“We beat Fulham 3-0, played really well and he signed a few days after that.

“Since then, he’s been brilliant and he’s scored important goals for us, hopefully he’ll be back out on the pitch as soon as possible.”

Jack Grealish v Iceland

Grealish made a positive impression during the final international break of 2020, earning rave reviews for his displays against Belgium and Iceland in particular.

The Villa captain has his sights firmly set on UEFA Euro 2020, while he also gave a fascinating insight into life within the international set-up.

“From now, all I can do is keep playing well for Aston Villa, get more goals, more assists and hopefully come the end of the season I’ll be in with a shout.

“I try to speak to everyone, especially the experienced players, just to take little ideas off them.

“There was one night where I just stayed and chatted with Jordan Henderson for about an hour, asking him questions about his career, which is nice, to be able to speak to these experienced players.

“Obviously the best thing is training and playing with them.”
