Ross Barkley’s brilliant late winner against Leicester City has been nominated for the Premier League’s October Goal of the Month award.

It completes a trio of recognition for Aston Villa, after Jack Grealish was included on the Player of the Month shortlist and Dean Smith’s nomination for Manager of the Month.

Barkley marked his Aston Villa debut with a goal in the incredible 7-2 win over Liverpool, but he stole the show at the King Power Stadium a fortnight later.

Brendan Rodgers’ side edged the first half before Villa took the initiative after the break, but it looked like a share of the points was on the cards.

That was until Barkley picked up a pass from John McGinn, shifted the ball onto his right foot and fired an unstoppable low shot past Kasper Schmeichel in stoppage time.

Barkley’s belter ensured that Villa started a league season with four successive wins for the first time since 1930.
