Aston Villa’s loanees endured mixed fortunes on the final day of the Sky Bet Championship season on Wednesday night.

Scott Hogan ended his spell at Birmingham City with a 3-1 defeat against Derby County at St Andrews, coming on as a 90th minute substitute as Blues finished the season in 20th place.

James Bree’s Luton Town climbed out of the relegation zone for the first time since December as they avoided the drop with a 3-2 victory at home to Blackburn Rovers.

The full-back played the entire match as the Hatters secured their Championship status.

There was a massive win for James Chester and Stoke City, who upset Nottingham Forest 4-1.

The defender’s 16th appearance of his loan spell saw the Potters claim a 15th place finish.

Andre Green suffered heartbreak as his Charlton Athletic side were beaten 4-0 by champions Leeds and relegated from the division.

The winger came on for the final 11 minutes at Elland Road.
