Frustration was the overriding emotion for Aston Villa on Thursday night but Ahmed Elmohamady is taking the positives into this weekend.

Following the goalless draw with Burnley, Dean Smith’s side go up against West Brom and their newly-appointed manager Sam Allardyce on Sunday night.

Elmohamady made his first league start of the season against the Clarets and he saw enough in the performance to be confident ahead of the trip to The Hawthorns.

Speaking after full-time, he said: "The chances we created is a positive to take to the next game on Sunday, which will be a hard one.

"It will be the same, they will be hard to break, so we have to recover and be ready for Sunday."

Matty Cash and Ezri Konsa had been in ever-present in the league until Thursday, but Elmohamady and Kortney Hause slotted in seamlessly and produced an accomplished defensive performance.

Emi Martinez leads the Premier League in clean sheets and if Villa continue to defend well, Elmohamady is sure their luck will change at the other end.

"Of course, we kept a clean sheet as well. In the last three home games we conceded, so a clean sheet is a positive,” he explained.

"We were unlucky, when you see all the chances.

"We should have won, but it's one of those games and we'll take a point and move on.”
