Gemma Davies says Aston Villa Women are 'building something that is going to go beyond' the current campaign.
Villa lost 3-1 to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, a defeat which leaves them one place above the Barclays FA Women's Super League drop zone.
Nadine Hanssen's superbly taken goal was in vain as the hosts overpowered a depleted Villa squad who had also played in midweek.
Davies had no complaints with the final score when speaking to the Club website after the game.
“On the whole, it’s probably a fair result" said the Head Coach.
"Spurs just edged it.
"There were just too many inconsistencies in our performance."
Davies was keen to put Sunday's defeat, and the start to the season in general, in a wider perspective.
"If you were to ask me where I thought we’d be coming to the midway point of the season, I would say this is it" Davies stated.
"There’s a lot of heart, fight, desire, passion and ultimately pride to wear the shirt.
"That’s something we’ve cultivated from day dot.
That (inconsistency) has got to be expected when we’re a new team in a new league and trying to find our feet.
"We’ve made a lot of progression in a short space of time.”
Despite the overriding positives the team can point towards through their first seven league games, Davies was left feeling slightly frustrated at going behind minutes after equalising through Hanssen's long-range effort.
“It’s hugely frustrating.
"We created enough to take something out of the game.
"It’s those lapses in concentration, the inconsistency with the ball.
We played ourselves into trouble when we didn’t need to.
That just comes from exposure at this level, but we’re building something that’s going to go beyond this season.”
Villa are back on the road this coming weekend, when they will take on West Ham United in their final game of 2020.
