Caro Siems admits Aston Villa Women's shaky start against Manchester City Women on Saturday was down to nerves, but says the team performance was a good one.

Villa's debut in the Barclays FA Women's Super League was a rude awakening to life in the top flight, but Siems feels there a positives aplenty to take into the rest of the season.

“It was a great experience, I loved it" the young full-back told VillaTV.

"Apart from the two goals, it was a good performance for the first game.

"Obviously, we don’t have much experience in the Women’s Super League, so it was a good performance.”

City's experience was the defining factor in a game where Gemma Davies' side had their fair share of chances, but Siems feels the team maintained their focus to stay in the game.

“I was quite nervous at the beginning; the team were as well" admitted the 21-year-old.

"We were aggressive and we gained some security after the first few minutes. We managed that well.

“The goals shouldn’t have happened, but we responded well. We were still confident, and we could’ve scored a few times as well.”

Looking ahead to Sunday's fixture against Reading, and beyond, Siems told VillaTV the best is yet to come.

“We’ve only been together for seven weeks; it’s not a lot of time.

“The league is very competitive. You can never switch off.

"That’s something I realised today. If we always give 100%, I think it’s going to be a good season.”

Aston Villa Women continue their Super League campaign on Sunday, when they take on Reading Women at the Madejski Stadium (2pm KO).
