Ezri Konsa believes Aston Villa are ready to “push on” ahead of their second season in the Premier League.

With a year’s experience of top-flight football now under their belts, the defender thinks Villa are well positioned to build on their 17th place finish last term.

The team ended the season strongly, picking up eight points in their final four games, and Konsa feels they can carry that momentum into the new campaign.

“It’s a great opportunity to build on last season,” he said.

“I believe that we’ll do much better this season. We know what the Premier League is like now.

“We’ve played against the top teams, we know how they play and it’s time to push on and get into a better position this season.”

After joining the club last summer, Konsa made the step up to Premier League level and became a key piece of Villa’s defence.

The 22-year-old made 25 league appearances, scoring one goal, during a memorable season, and he’s keen to kick-on when the new campaign begins in September.

He said: “It was a dream come true to play my first season in the Premier League.

“I enjoyed every moment of it and I’m learning every day. With help from the coaches and my teammates, I can only get better.

“It was something that I’ve dreamt about since I was a little kid, scoring in the Premier League. To have done it is a dream come true.

“This season I want to build on my partnership with Tyrone Mings. I feel like we grew as the season went on, especially over the last four games. The plan is to build on where we finished last season.”
