Sunday marks 40 years since Aston Villa began their triumphant 1980/81 campaign which saw the club win the First Division.

The title triumph was the seventh and last time Villa have been crowned champions of England’s top flight, and they kicked off that season with a 2-1 win against Leeds United.

The visiting Villans recovered from conceding in the second minute to take the win at Elland Road thanks to goals from Tony Morley and Gary Shaw.

And to kick-off the club’s 40th anniversary celebrations, the goalscorers from that day joined a number of their team-mates for a virtual reunion, which you can watch on VillaTV.

Morley and Shaw were joined by Ken McNaught, Dennis Mortimer, Colin Gibson, Allan Evans, Jimmy Rimmer, Kenny Swain, Des Bremner and Gordon Cowans as host Jack Woodward took the team back through a momentous campaign.

Throughout this season, we will be celebrating the achievements of manager Ron Saunders and his squad with special features, match highlights and interviews on the website, VillaTV and across our social media channels.
