Matt Targett was down but not out after Aston Villa were forced to settle for a draw against Everton on Thursday evening.

The defender was bitterly disappointed that his side had allowed Theo Walcott in to equalise with just three minutes left.

However, he vowed that Villa would fight to the end in their attempts to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

“It’s not three points but we’ve got two games left and we’re still in the race,” he said.

“The team won’t give up and we’ll give it our all against Arsenal at Villa Park.

“Defensively we’ve been better, but I still feel like we can be more clinical up front.”

After seeing off Everton’s early attacks, Villa controlled the game for long spells and created a number of good chances before Ezri Konsa put them ahead.

Anwar El Ghazi spurned a great chance to double the lead before Carlo Ancelotti’s team pulled level late on.

“It was a real kick in the teeth,” Targett said.

“We defended so well up until the goal and it was a game of few chances.

“We had a massive chance with El Ghazi to make it 2-0, kill the game off and get three points.

“If we get the second goal, it kills the game off.”
