Jack Grealish said Aston Villa weren’t willing to settle for anything less than three points against Crystal Palace.
VAR handed the home side a reprieve when Mamadou Sakho was adjudged to have scored with his arm early-on, and Villa took full advantage.
Trezeguet scored in each half as the hosts secured their first Premier League victory since a 2-1 win against Watford in January.
Grealish said: “Everyone knows how big this game was for us and we went out there and I thought we were brilliant today.
“We knew we weren’t at it [against Manchester United] and we knew how tough that game was going to be.
“We analysed it and we knew how big this one was today. We couldn’t have taken anything less than three points.”
Before Sunday’s win, defenders Kortney Hause and Ahmed Elmohamady were the only players to score for Villa since the top flight restarted in June.
The club captain was pleased that had finally been rectified.
“We needed one of the attackers to score,” Grealish said.
“Since we’ve come back, we’ve only scored two goals in six games, and both of them have been from defenders.
“It was about time one of the attackers got on the scoresheet.”
