Ezri Konsa couldn’t hide his frustration after Aston Villa fell to a 3-0 defeat against Manchester United on Thursday night.
Dean Smith’s side started well but goals from Bruno Fernandes, Mason Greenwood and Paul Pogba secured the points for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team.
Konsa was involved in the challenge that led to United’s opener from the spot after 27 minutes and he gave his thoughts on the incident at full-time.
“He made contact on my ankle,” the defender explained to VillaTV.
“I thought it wasn’t a penalty at the time and looking back at it, I still feel the same way.”
The call from Jon Moss – which was reviewed by VAR – was especially frustrating for Konsa and his teammates, considering the start that Villa had made to the game.
He said: “It was given and it’s disappointing, I thought we put them under pressure in the first 20 minutes and we won the ball back in key areas.
“We had a chance with Jack [Grealish], Trezeguet hit the post and with the penalty, it just deflated us a little bit and gave them more confidence.”
Konsa is well aware of the need for points at this stage of the season, with Crystal Palace up next at Villa Park on Sunday.
“It’s going to be another tough one, we have a massive four games left and we need to pick up points very quickly.”
