After scoring the equaliser at St James’ Park on Wednesday night, Ahmed Elmohamady looked ahead to Aston Villa’s remaining seven Premier League fixtures.
The full-back scored his first top-flight goal in 1,921 days to rescue a valuable point for Dean Smith’s side at Newcastle United, when he nodded home from Conor Hourihane’s corner.
Elmohamady revealed that Villa have been spending a lot of time working on set pieces – both defending and attacking – since returning to training.
Although he was pleased to see the hard work pay off, the Egyptian believes that Villa deserved more on the night.
He said: “I think we should’ve won the three points, we dominated the game – especially in the first half – and had big chances.
“We have been working on set pieces and thankfully I came on and scored the goal.
“Since we came back, we have had a lot of set pieces and we work on the training ground very hard.”
With Wolves up next at Villa Park on Saturday, Elmohamady’s focus quickly turned to seven games that will define the 2019/20 campaign.
“It’s a big run for us, we have seven more games to go,” he added.
“We’re all together. Aston Villa is a massive club and the players – and everybody around the club – all want to keep the club in the Premier League.”
