At a Glance
Aston Villa welcome Chelsea to Villa Park on Sunday for a Premier League encounter.
Dean Smith’s team resumed their campaign with a 0-0 draw against Sheffield United on home turf on Wednesday.
That point kept Villa in 19th place in the table, one point adrift of safety.
Chelsea will take to the pitch for a Premier League game for the first time since they beat Everton 4-0 on 8 March.
The Blues have warmed up for the match with practice games against QPR and Reading, winning 7-1 and 1-0 respectively.
Head-to-Head
Aston Villa and Chelsea have met on 154 occasions, dating back to their first game in 1907.
Villa have won 57 times, drawn 34 and lost 63 games against the Blues.
Standout Stats
Aston Villa have won on six of the seven days of the week in the Premier League this season, with the only exception being Sunday. A win here will see them become just the second team in top-flight history to win a match on all seven days of the week within a season, after Tottenham in 1986-87.
Chelsea haven’t won any of their four away Premier League games in 2020 (D3 L1), having won seven of their previous nine on the road (L2). They last had a longer winless run away from home between September-December 2015 (7 games).
As a player, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard won just four of his 16 Premier League visits to Villa Park (D8 L4). His last appearance there with Chelsea saw him score twice in a 2-1 victory to become the Blues’ all-time leading goalscorer.
Team News
Aston Villa have no fresh injury worries for Chelsea after the players came through Wednesday night’s fixture unscathed.
Dean Smith had already confirmed that Tom Heaton and Wesley are still set to miss the rest of the season with their respective knee injuries that they picked up against Burnley at Turf Moor on New Year's Day.
Chelsea have an almost fully-fit squad to choose from for their visit to Villa Park.
There are question marks over the fitness of Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi, but Jorginho is the only definite absentee as he serves the final match of a two-game ban.
The Boss
“We’ll have an idea of their squad and the shape. As Chris Wilder said before our game, there aren't too many surprises going to be thrown out.
“We know each other’s squads because nothing’s changed within our squads.
“We’ll have a good idea of who we’re going to be facing.”
