As part of Aston Villa Football Club’s ‘Supporting Our Own’ initiative, the Aston Villa Foundation are seeking nominations for their annual ‘Community Champion’ scheme.

The Community Champion programme offers fans and local people alike the chance to nominate unsung heroes from all walks of life, who make a positive contribution to their local community and inspire others.

At a time when the country is facing extremely challenging times on a number of fronts, we are looking to recognise youth workers, ambassadors, fundraisers, carers, healthcare workers – the people who have been working tirelessly for the benefit of others, or people who battle difficult personal circumstances selflessly and without complaint.

Nominees for the Community Champion scheme do not need to be Aston Villa supporters – they can be of any age, with the only criteria being that they are inspirational for others and come from Birmingham and surrounding areas.

Since its inception in 2017-18, the programme has recognised 21 Community Champions with a five-star hospitality match day experience at Villa Park and a recognition trophy.

With the remaining games for the 2019-20 season being played behind closed doors, the match day experience for this season will unfortunately not be possible. However, those chosen by a committee will be sent their trophies and their efforts featured on the official club website.

Luke Corbett received a Community Champion award last season in recognition of his fundraising and ambassadorial efforts for Acorns, Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Kidney Care UK.

Luke said: “The Community Champion scheme is an amazing once in a lifetime experience, especially as a fanatical Aston Villa Supporter.

“When I found out I was nominated and then chosen, I was over the moon. I got the opportunity to meet some fantastic people and I have managed to make some new contacts off the back of the event.

“If you know of anyone that has gone the extra mile, please nominate them as you will make them feel that what they are doing is appreciated.”

You can nominate your Community Champion by emailing: foundation@avfc.co.uk

Please include your name and contact details and those of the person you are nominating, along with as much information as possible about why you think this person should be recognised as a Community Champion.

Closing date for nominations is 5pm on Wednesday June 24.
