Villa v Stoke: Weimann - I'm gunning for Acorns Day hat-trick

Andreas Weimann says he's aiming for an Acorns Day hat-trick.

Weimann scored the dramatic winner on the first edition of the charity campaign as Villa saw off Fulham in the final moments of the March 2012 encounter.

He then bagged one on the second Acorns Day - the vital 3-2 win over QPR in March 2013.

Now he hopes to hit his third as Villa eye another big win over Stoke and Acorns look for a big total.

Ironically, victory in the clash with the Potters would also give Villa three home wins on the spin - the first time the club has achieved this feat since October 2007, when Chelsea, Everton and West Ham were beaten.

Weimann said: "I'd love to make it a hat-trick. That would be very special to me.

"I remember that first goal against Fulham. That was an unbelievable feeling. It was my first senior goal. I will never forget that.

"The one against QPR was in a critical game as we looked to get out of trouble. It was one of the biggest games of the season against a team who were also down near the bottom. That was huge.

"Both were big wins and hopefully I can get another in this latest match.

"Scoring is great but obviously the only thing that's important is doing it in a victory. That goes without saying.

"Acorns Day is a special thing. I think it's really fantastic that the whole club comes together. The players donate money and I know staff at the ground are doing a host of events to raise money too.

"Everyone, from every area of the club, is chipping in. I just think that's great.

"The Acorns link-up has been in place since I broke into the senior team and it's a brilliant cause that brings smiles to the faces of people who are struggling.

"What I want to see is a win for the team on Sunday and a big total raised for Acorns - that would be the best possible outcome."
