Villa Ladies started their campaign with a solid point against Cardiff City.
Graham Abercrombie's team, newly-promoted to the Premier League National Division, were pleased with the draw, although they had several chances to take all three points from the encounter at Cardiff International Sports Stadium.
England U19 internationals Katie Wilkinson - who came through the centre of excellence and Sherry McCue - who signed from Crewe - both made their debuts in claret and blue.
Abercrombie said: "It was good to get the season underway to help find our feet in this new division and the players did themselves proud.
"It was a good point away from home but there was disappointment in the changing room after the game for not getting all three, which in itself shows the character of the group.
"The performance was solid throughout the team and we controlled the tempo of the game for long periods but the reward of a goal or two was all that was missing".
Reigning champions Sunderland thrashed Watford 8-2, despite going one-down early on.
Hayley Sharp scored four minutes from time to give Leeds United a 1-0 away to Barnet at Underhill and give them maximum points after two games.
Coventry City's first-ever goal at this level was enough to claim their first points, Maz Gauntlett scoring after 15 minutes for a 1-0 win over Charlton.
Nikki Watts netted a hat-trick as Reading ran out 3-1 winners at Nottingham Forest to go top. Her first on 49 minutes was cancelled out by Jemma Connor-Iommi's 62nd-minute penalty but Watts then struck twice in as many minutes with the hosts unable to reply in the remaining 10 minutes.
