El Ahmadi: Gaffer eager for us to play good football

By Richard Franks

Karim El Ahmadi can't wait to begin his new claret and blue adventure because he's already seen manager Paul Lambert wants to play good football.

El Ahmadi - nicknamed 'The Governor' because of his influence in the middle of the park - is impressed with manager Lambert's commanding presence on the training ground and the way he's getting his ideas across.

The Moroccan is already convinced Lambert wants Villa to play the right way.

He said: "The gaffer hopes to play good football with Villa and has told us to be scared of nobody, especially at home.

"I hope the fans are going to support us and help us do everything to take Villa to a good level, back where it belongs.

"You can see that there is more speed here but the training and what we do with the coach is similar to the training that we do in Holland.

"There are a lot of precision games with the ball, so compared to Holland it's the same.

"It's about always wanting to play football. That's what I like and it's like how the Dutch teams play.

"I think with this coach we're going to play some good football.

"Sometimes in Holland they call me 'The Governor'. I feel comfortable with the job to always help make the team play better and always come for the ball."

He also revealed how it's been a dream of his to play in the Barclays Premier League for the longest time - and discussed how happy he is to get that chance with Lambert's Lions.

He added: "I saw a lot of Premier League games in Holland because we play a lot on Sunday.

"It's always been a dream to play in the Premier League because I think it's the best in the world.

"I'm glad to come and play for Aston Villa and I hope I can show something to the crowd."
