Dion Dublin insists Stephen Warnock will benefit hugely from his World Cup adventure - even if he doesn't feature in any of England's games.
The Villa defender is yet to be called upon by Fabio Capello at the tournament in South Africa, with Ashley Cole holding on to the left-back spot for the disappointing draws against the USA and Algeria.
But former claret and blues striker Dublin reckons Warnock should savour the experience, even if he doesn't kick a ball during the showpiece.
The ex-Blackburn Rovers and Liverpool ace pipped Everton's Leighton Baines to the second left-back spot when Capello trimmed his squad from 30 to 23.
"Stephen Warnock will just be grateful that he made it into the squad because it was a tight call between him and Leighton Baines," said Dublin.
"He knows he has been picked to provide back-up for Ashley Cole and that his only chance is if anything happens to Cole.
"It might be the case that he doesn't get on to the field at all and if that happens then I'm sure it will be a bit frustrating.
"But just being in and around that squad will help him learn, gain great confidence and give him experience of pressure situations which could help him in his club career at Villa further down the line."
