Aston Villa is pleased to announce Marisa Ewers has been appointed as Director of Women’s Football and will take up her new position ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Ewers first joined the football club in 2019, then as a midfielder, and would go on to play a key part in our promotion to the Women’s Super League in 2020.
The 36-year-old continued to contribute to the team’s on-pitch success in the years that followed, captaining the side whose top-flight status was confirmed in nail-biting fashion on the final day of the 2020/21 campaign.
The former midfielder called time on her playing career in February 2022 and has held the role of General Manager for almost three years; playing a significant part in the club’s recruitment strategy as well as in the day-to-day running of the women’s programme.
President of Sporting Operations, Monchi said: “We are delighted that Marisa will become the new Director of Women’s Football.
“Marisa has impressed us over the last few years with the dedication she has shown in her role as General Manager.
“We believe she has the necessary experience and skills to drive the women’s programme forward at Aston Villa.”
Marisa Ewers said: “This club has been my home for the past six years, first as a player and then as a member of staff.
“It’s a true privilege to take on this new position.
“To be entrusted with leading the next phase of growth for a club I love is something I don’t take lightly.
“I’m ready to build on the work that’s already been done by so many people before me.”
