Defeat on the final day

Aston Villa were defeated in their final game of the 2024/25 season at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, losing 2-0 to Manchester United. 

After Emi Martínez saw red for a last-man challenge on Rasmus Højlund on the stroke of half-time, Villa thought they had taken the lead with 10 players 17 minutes from time when Morgan Rogers tapped into an empty net, though the referee had adjudged him to have kicked the ball out of the grasp of goalkeeper Altay Bayındır. 

Just three minutes later, Amad Diallo's header put the hosts ahead, before a late penalty from Christian Eriksen ensured Unai Emery's side would finish sixth in the Premier League table, qualifying for next season's UEFA Europa League.
