Aston Villa Women defender and captain Rachel Corsie has announced she will be retiring from professional football following the conclusion of Scotland's upcoming two UEFA Nations League qualifiers.

The 35-year-old joined Villa back in January 2022 and was made club captain ahead of the 2023/24 Women's Super League campaign.

Corsie went on to make 58 appearances in the Claret and Blue and played a key part in the side that recorded their best-ever WSL finish during the 22/23 season.

The centre back's first goal for the club also came during that memorable campaign as she netted in the side's 2-1 victory over Manchester City in the Women's FA Cup to help book Villa's place in the semi-final of the competition for the first-time ever.

Her final season in B6 was hit by injury but the veteran defender battled back to ensure she made two final appearances as a Villan, both in victories over Arsenal and Brighton & Hove Albion, and to don the captain's armband for the last time.

Corsie's retirement also brings an end to her stellar 15-year-long Scotland career.

The Aberdeen born defender made her senior debut for her country against France back in 2009 and has gone on to amass over 150 appearances.

She also represented Scotland on the biggest stage as she was a part of both the 2017 UEFA Women's Euros and 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup squads as she helped her nation make history.

Corsie currently sits third in the all-time appearance list for Scotland and can add two more to her 154 caps this international break.

The defender also represented Glasgow City, Notts County, Seattle Reign, Utah Royals, Canberra United, Birmingham City and Kansas City Current during her 17-year-long senior career.

Everyone at Aston Villa congratulates Rachel on a brilliant career and wishes her well on her next step 💜
