Cole Brannigan confessed his pride at having helped Aston Villa lift the FA Youth Cup for the fifth time in history at Villa Park on Monday.

Brannigan’s 31st-minute wondergoal edged the Young Lions 2-1 ahead going into the half-time break, before Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba’s second-half strike sealed a 3-1 win.

The Northern Irishman was “over the moon” with his goal and winners’ medal, admitting lifting the trophy was a dream come true.

He said: “Absolutely over the moon. Obviously, to score a goal makes it just even better, and obviously getting an assist as well.

“I had one thought in my mind. It was just to smash it as soon as I saw it. I saw it hit the net in the top corner and the fans erupted. I was buzzing.

“I’ve dreamt of these moments since I came here. It’s the biggest cup to win so I’m absolutely buzzing. The feeling is just surreal.

“It’s just amazing to be a part of the group, and I’m so happy.”

With over 25,000 spectators inside Villa Park to cheer Jimmy Shan’s players on, Brannigan spoke of his appreciation for the Villa fans’ support, and how special it feels to have written his name into the Aston Villa history books.

He added: “I appreciate (the supporters) all coming out and supporting us. Obviously, it’s a big moment for us so for them to come out of their way and support us shows a lot for us as well.

“Obviously, such a big club, and it’s just getting better and better as it goes, so I’m absolutely buzzing to be a part of it.

“Being in the history books of this club is something special.”
