Enzo Barrenechea set up a crucial winning goal for loan club Valencia over the weekend, as Carlos Corberán’s side triumphed 2-1 over Real Valladolid.

The Argentine assisted teammate Umar Sadiq just before the hour mark at the Mestalla on Saturday, to help Los Ches to all three points, moving them clear of the La Liga relegation zone.

Barrenechea clipped the ball over the top to Sadiq from a deep midfield position on the halfway line, and the Nigerian brought it down and finished past the goalkeeper to put the hosts ahead for the second and final time in the game.

Elsewhere across Europe on Saturday, there was 45 minutes for Emi Buendía, who started Bayer Leverkusen’s 2-0 defeat at home to Werder Bremen, before being withdrawn at half-time. Kosta Nedeljković was an unused substitute for RB Leipzig.

In Spain, there were 90 minutes and a clean sheet each for James Wright and Finley Munroe, as Real Unión triumphed 1-0 over Arenteiro in Primera Federación Group A on Sunday. Kadan Young was an unused substitute for Royal Antwerp in Belgium.

And in Brazil on Saturday, Philippe Coutinho started and played 54 minutes for Vasco da Gama, who lost 2-1 to Flamengo in second leg of their Taça Guanabara play-off semi-final.

Closer to home, Saturday saw both Sil Swinkels and Lino Sousa contribute to Bristol Rovers’ clean sheet in an impressive 1-0 home win over promotion-cashing Huddersfield Town.

Swinkels started for the League One outfit, playing 78 minutes and being replaced by Sousa who came on for the final 12 minutes to see out the victory at The Memorial Ground.

Also in League One, Josh Feeney again completed 90 minutes for Shrewsbury Town, in their 2-0 defeat at Exeter City.

In the Championship, Kaine Kesler-Hayden played the full match as Preston North End lost 1-0 at high-flying Sheffield United, while Samuel Iling-Jr was introduced from the bench at half-time of Middlesbrough’s 1-0 defeat at Swansea City.

In League Two, Filip Marschall again played 90 minutes in goal for Crewe Alexandra, who secured a point on the road with a 1-1 draw at Salford City.

For MK Dons, Tommi O’Reilly was introduced from the bench for the final 13 minutes of their 2-1 win over Morecambe, while Travis Patterson was an unused substitute.

Charlie Lutz again came off the bench for Kidderminster Harriers in their 3-0 win at home to Scarbrough Athletic, while Àlex Moreno was an unused substitute for Nottingham Forest in their 1-0 win over Manchester City.
