Kirsty Hanson came off the bench to net a dramatic stoppage time winner to secure Aston Villa a 3-2 win away to Tottenham Hotspur in the Women’s Super League this afternoon.

Birthday girl Anna Patten found the opener in the 30th minute as she nodded home from close range before Ebony Salmon made it 2-0 in the 56th minute with a powerful effort.

Villa quickly came undone as goals from Jess Naz and Ella Morris in the space of five minutes levelled the scoring.

But the Villans refused to only settle for a point and Hanson came off the bench to produce a fantastic and solo winning goal.

Natalia Arroyo named an unchanged starting 11 as the same team that helped the side to a 2-1 win over Liverpool last time out lined up again today.

Villa started the contest brightly and had their first chance inside the home side’s final third with only two minutes on the clock as Salmon won the ball back just past the half-way line and headed forward before slipping a pass through to Chasity Grant but her low cross was smothered by Lize Kop.

Missy Bo Kearns teed up a shot only seconds later as she took aim from just outside the box but her low effort was saved with ease.

Lucy Staniforth played a quick one-two with Salmon in the ninth minute but her resulting shot flew just over the target.

Villa’s early dominance paid off as they bagged the opening goal with 30 minutes on the clock. Daly rose high to head a free-kick from Staniforth towards goal, but her effort came crashing back off the crossbar however Patten was lurking inside the six-yard box to safely see the ball over the line.

Arroyo’s side had to defend deeply in the final minutes of the first-half as Tottenham looked to nick an equaliser just before the break but big blocks from Miri Taylor ensured that Villa went in ahead.

Villa doubled their advantage in the 56th minute as Salmon made it 2-0 to the side.

Lucy Parker hit a terrific ball deep from her own half which was neatly flicked on from Daly on the half-way line which opened up a path for Salmon to pounce on the ball, charge towards goal and safely place a shot past the keeper.

But Villa’s celebrations were cut short as Naz pulled one back for the home side in the 65th minute as she tapped home from close range following a scramble inside the box.

A further blow was dealt five minutes later as Morris made it 2-2 after she received a long ball from Kop, carried it forward and rounded Sabrina D’Angelo before smashing the ball into an empty net.

Substitute Jill Baijings won the ball back on the edge of the box in the 85th minute which allowed Parker to slip a pass through to Hanson who quickly arranged her feet before shooting but Kop collected.

Villa wouldn’t lie down without a fight and were determined to pick up another important three points and got their rewards as Hanson bagged the winning goal in style in the 91st minute.

Grant won the ball back inside her own half before picking out Hanson with a pass who strongly held off two defenders whilst chasing down the goal before smashing it into the back of the net.
