“Today was just special. So many goals, beautiful goals. A really good team performance, and really happy.”

The 23-year-old struck Villa’s crucial second goal – his first in the Premier League – just after the hour mark to put his side back ahead.

Maatsen discussed his pride in scoring a “great” goal before turning attention to another important clash at Manchester City on Tuesday night.

“Yeah, it was a nice one! It just sat up and luckily Ollie (Watkins) saw me. I just had to finish it in, and (it was a) great goal.

“We still have a lot of important games in the Premier League. We want to get the Europe place, so we are fighting and giving everything for that.

“It’s the same. Away from home it’s always tough, but I think we believe in this team, and I believe in this team.

“We will go there, and hopefully we get the three points and we fight like we did today.”
