Defeat at St. James'

Aston Villa suffered defeat in the Premier League on Boxing Day, losing 3-0 to Newcastle United at St. James Park. 

Villa's difficult run in the north east continued and, at a ground where they haven't won since 2005, they fell behind inside the opening 80 seconds, courtesy of Anthony Gordan's sweet strike. 

Jhon Durán's dismissal just after the half-hour made life more difficult for Unai Emery, ensuring his side would have to contest the remaining hour with 10 players. Second-half strikes from Alexander Isak and Joelinton sealed the points for the Magpies.
