Emi Martínez kept yet another clean sheet as Argentina maintained their 100 per cent record in World Cup qualifying with a 2-0 victory over Peru.

Martínez, who has not conceded an international goal since Argentina’s World Cup final success in Qatar, completed 90 minutes as he recorded his eighth successive shut-out.

The Aston Villa goalkeeper set a national team record after going 622 minutes without conceding in Friday’s 1-0 win over Paraguay, a milestone further extended following another triumph on Wednesday morning.

The 2-0 success over Peru came courtesy of Lionel Messi’s first-half brace, leaving Argentina with four wins from four in qualification.

Jhon Durán appeared off the bench as a second-half substitute as Colombia played out a goalless draw in Ecuador.

The Villa striker was introduced in the 75th minute as unbeaten Colombia again shared the spoils in their World Cup qualifier, a third draw in four matches to leave them on six points.

Boubacar Kamara and John McGinn also both appeared as second-half substitutes and came up against each other as France claimed a 4-1 friendly victory over a much-changed Scotland.

Kamara stepped off the bench in the 76th minute before McGinn did likewise in the latter stages of the encounter in Lille.

It came with both sides having already secured their spots at next summer’s European Championship.

Another Villa player celebrating qualification for Euro 2024 is Ollie Watkins after England’s 3-1 triumph over Italy.

The striker was an unused substitute at Wembley as the Three Lions saw off Italy to confirm their place at the tournament in Germany.

Congratulations, Ollie!
