Aston Villa fell to EFL Trophy defeat against Charlton Athletic at The Valley on Tuesday night.

The Young Lions came off second best during the first half against a strong Addicks side as the League One hosts opened up a four-goal lead courtesy of Miles Leaburn’s brace, Charlie Kirk and Louie Watson.

But Villa’s Under-21s showed plenty of spirit in the second period and, after Tommi O’Reilly’s penalty clipped the crossbar, reduced the arrears through Kobei Moore and Todd Alcock, who found the net direct from a corner to make it 4-2 in south-east London.
