Aston Villa saw off Nottingham Forest 3-0 to seal their spot in the quarter-finals of the Under-18 Premier League Cup in style.

Rory Wilson’s brace, either side of half-time, put Villa in control and took his tally for the season to 19 goals, before Charlie Pavey added a third with a 20-yard strike in the 78th minute.

The Young Lions finished top of Group C with a 100 per cent record having won all three matches against Leeds United, Norwich City and Forest to progress into the last eight of the competition.

Villa will be looking to go one better than last season having reached the final of the competition before falling to defeat against Tottenham Hotspur.

Both sides threatened during the opening quarter, Villa goalkeeper Sam Proctor making a smart save to deny Danny Anisjko when he raced clean through.

And it was Villa who opened the scoring in the 25th minute when Wilson headed home a cross from the left.

The hosts continued to threaten courtesy of some neat, patient build-up play, Pavey’s strike blocked by Forest ‘keeper Keehan Willows, while Proctor again had to be alert to thwart Connor Brown at the other end.

Wilson doubled his tally and Villa’s advantage in the 69th minute as he followed up to convert from close range after Pavey’s low strike rebounded off the far post.

And Pavey got the goal he deserved shortly afterwards as he received a corner on the edge of the area, took a touch and unleashed a powerful right-footed shot past Willows.
