Jacob Ramsey had mixed emotions after Aston Villa’s 1-1 draw against Liverpool at Anfield.

The midfielder slammed home his sixth goal of the season to fire Villa ahead midway through the first half, moments after Ollie Watkins had sent a penalty wide.

But the hosts, who saw Cody Gakpo’s effort ruled out by VAR, converted an 89th-minute equaliser through Roberto Firmino to ensure it finished honours even.

And Ramsey had contrasting feelings after the full-time whistle.

“I think, if you would have said before the game that we’d come here, with the atmosphere and their form, and take a point then we’d have taken it,” he told VillaTV.

“But I think considering how long we were in front for, the last 15-20 minutes our legs were gone, we were defending deep.

“It’s obviously disappointing but we’ll take it.”

He added: “Coming here and getting a point at Anfield; everyone knows how tough it is.

“But, like I said, a little bit disappointed considering how long we were leading for and we had chances to kill the game.”

Ramsey’s goal marked his 100th appearance in claret and blue having made his debut in February 2019.

And the 21-year-old Academy graduate spoke of his pride at reaching the milestone for his boyhood club.

“I’m really proud,” he said.

“I’m 21 and I remember my first appearance for the club at home against West Brom, coming on, looking nervous, shaky.

“But I’m proud and thankful for all the managers I’ve had in my time here to believe in me and play me.”

The point leaves Villa in pole position in the race for seventh place heading into the final day.

Unai Emery’s side lead Tottenham Hotspur and Brentford by one and two points respectively in the Premier League table with one match remaining.

And Ramsey is hoping to finish on a high against Brighton & Hove Albion in front of a sold-out Villa Park next weekend.

“I think it’s in our hands now, if we beat Brighton and get a good result there then the season has finished really positively,” he added.

“Another big game, another final, back at Villa Park in front of our fans, it will be really good.”
