Unai Emery felt a draw was a fair result against West Ham United in the Premier League on Sunday.

Aston Villa continued their strong away form under the Spaniard’s leadership, leaving the London Stadium with a point following a 1-1 draw.

Emery was pleased with how his side stuck to their game plan and he walked away content with picking up a point and extending their unbeaten run to three games.

Unai Emery.

“We are being competitive again away, and we didn’t win but we played very good in the same idea that we are trying to build,” he said.

“We tried to keep ball possession, tried to be efficient in our build-up, and, in this way, try to be better than the opponent.

“Today, the first half our control was good and we had chances to score the second goal. In the second half, we lost a bit of control.

“We have to be happy; we have to be proud of our supporters as well because they were here supporting us.

“It’s a draw – it’s not the best, it’s not the worst but I think it’s a fair result because we didn’t deserve more than this draw.”

Ollie Watkins.

Ollie Watkins put the visiting Villans ahead in the first half before they were pegged back by Saïd Benrahma’s penalty.

Emery’s focus quickly moved onto a home game against Bournemouth next weekend, with the head coach targeting another positive result.

He said: “Our challenge now is to be consistent at home and to be a team improving, showing with our supporters that every match is very important.

“We want to share with them our improvements, and Saturday is going to be a very good challenge to show it.”
