Aston Villa Under-21s got their pre-season schedule up and running with a 2-0 victory against Solihull Moors on Wednesday evening.

The Young Lions saw off the National League side thanks to goals from Louie Barry and summer addition Rico Richards.

Having made the short trip to the ARMCO Arena, things got off to a great start for Tony Carss’ Villa.

Four minutes had elapsed when Barry was felled in the box, picking himself up and burying the penalty.

Richards, who joined from West Bromwich Albion earlier this month, notched his side’s second after 30 minutes.

James Wright made a stunning save to preserve Villa’s lead just before half-time, tipping a header onto the crossbar.

In the second half, substitute Rory Wilson came close to extending the visitors’ advantage on a couple of occasions.

Wright was in fine form late on to deny Solihull with a double save as Villa claimed victory.

The Young Lions take on Hereford FC in their next pre-season outing on Tuesday. Tickets are available here.
