Matchwinner Ollie Watkins spoke of his delight after Aston Villa clinched a 1-0 victory at Southampton.
The Villa striker headed home his fifth goal of the campaign to down Saints at St Mary’s and secure all three points.
Unai Emery’s side were indebted to goalkeeper Emi Martínez for making crucial second-half saves to deny Adam Armstong and Moussa Djenepo, with Watkins admitting a lot of praise must go to the Argentina international stopper.
“Obviously it’s nice to be on the scoresheet and more importantly for us to win the game,” he told VillaTV.
“Earlier on in the season we probably would have drawn that game or even lost it, so I thought it was a decent display from us.
“We didn’t create too many chances but we kept the ball out of the back of the net and we’ve come away with the points.
“So, all round, it’s a good day.”

Victory extended Villa’s unbeaten Premier League run to four matches, with head coach Emery having now registered a total of 16 points from his seven matches at the helm.
It was also a third successive away win from the Spaniard’s three away league matches in charge.
An achievement not lost on Watkins.
“I think it’s always hard to go and win away in the Premier League,” he added.
“Whether it’s bottom of the league or top of the league, it’s always going to be difficult.
“It’s massive for us and hopefully we can keep pushing on now.”
