Carla Ward says Aston Villa Women are 'in a good position' following the bolstering of their squad during the January transfer window.

New signings Lucy Staniforth and Jordan Nobbs both started Saturday's 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Poundland Bescot Stadium.

And with a sprinkling of players looking to return from injury, Ward feels her squad are in good shape.

“They’re experienced, they’re quality," said the manager of our latest arrivals.

"The two of them were outstanding, but I thought the entire team was – even the girls that came off the bench."

"We’re in a good position, we’ve got a lot of competition for places now, everybody knows the levels are rising.”

Both Staniforth and Nobbs played key roles in the victory over Rehanne Skinner's side, but it was the performance of the entire team that Ward was quick to point out.

“The first half was the best 45 minutes since I’ve been here," said Ward with defiance.

"We were delighted. Everything we looked to try and do during the week was coming off. Collectively, everyone played a part.”
