Aston Villa are waiting to discover whether new signing Álex Moreno will be eligible for Friday’s Premier League clash against Leeds United.

The attacking left-back arrived from Real Betis on Wednesday, with Villa still awaiting all the necessary paperwork and clearance for him to be involved at Villa Park.

Captain John McGinn remains on the sidelines due to a hamstring injury, while fellow midfielder Leander Dendoncker is suspended following his red card in the FA Cup against Stevenage.

Centre-back Diego Carlos continues to make good progress with his long-term recovery from an Achilles injury but the game comes too soon.

Head coach Unai Emery, speaking at Thursday’s pre-match press conference, also revealed right-back Matty Cash is doubtful for the encounter.

Álex Moreno

“McGinn is out. Diego Carlos is getting better but it will be a month or two before he is with us,” said the Villa boss.

“Jed Steer is starting to train with us in one or two weeks.

“Cash is a doubt for tomorrow, and Álex Moreno, his transfer is coming today, we’re waiting for it. Maybe he will be in the squad.

“Dendoncker is also suspended after his red card on Sunday.”
