Aston Villa is supporting Green Football Weekend on Saturday for our men's fixture against Leicester City at Villa Park and women's encounter against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Across the weekend of February 3-5, 80 Premier League and EFL clubs will raise awareness of the environmental considerations in putting on matches and encourage behavioural changes to reduce this impact.

Across Green Football Weekend, we are asking fans to help us reduce the club's carbon footprint by making a pledge for climate-friendly actions you’ll be making on matchday. You can make a pledge via the link below.

Since the launch of Claret, Blue and Green - Villa's environmental commitment - in November 2021, departments from around the club have made changes in order to lower their carbon footprint.

These include…

  • Groundskeeping equipment has moved from diesel-powered to electric
  • Stadium floodlights are now LED lights to reduce the amount of power required
  • New food digesters are reducing the amount of food waste, with the aim to have all matchday food waste digested on site by the end of the season
  • A successful reusable cup scheme implemented across the stadium has prevented thousands of disposable cups from landfill

Further efforts have been made to reduce our environmental impact on the first-ever Green Football Weekend.

These include…

  • A new vegetarian and vegan trader will be located in the food court outside the Trinity stand entrance
  • There will be more vegetarian and vegan food options on the menus in the hospitality areas
  • Information will be displayed on all hospitality menus regarding the carbon footprint of each individual dish, allowing fans to make an informed decision on the environmental impact of their food choices
  • Food waste bins and general waste bins on the concourses will help fans play their part in reducing waste in this area

We are also encouraging supporters to consider their environmental impact when travelling to the stadium on matchday - by walking, sharing cars or via public transport.

For future games, the club are working with National Express to create a reward scheme for those fans travelling by bus to Villa Park, and they will be able to claim Pride Reward points for taking public transport. This initiative will come into effect from our home match against Crystal Palace in early March.

A review of the club’s current carbon footprint is being carried out by a sustainability consultant, and in the next few months the data collected, along with supporter and stakeholder consultation, will see a full environmental strategy developed under the Claret, Blue and Green banner.

As part of this review, we are asking fans to complete the questionnaire below. Your answers will help us to better understand matchday routines and gives supporters the opportunity to offer feedback on where the club can make improvements to reduce its environmental impact.
