Aston Villa players showed their support for women’s football during the club’s training camp in Dubai in December.

Captain John McGinn, Ashley Young, Calum Chambers, Josh Feeney and Kadan Young met up with Onyx FC, the first female-owned football club in the UAE.

The Villans spent time getting to know Onyx FC’s players, founders and coaches, learning about their mission to provide a safe and empowering environment for women to enjoy the beautiful game.

The players joined in a skills and drills session, run by the Onyx FC coaches, and finished off the evening with a tense crossbar challenge. There were plenty of smiles as the teams swapped shirts and took the opportunity for some photos following the session. You can view a gallery from the day below.

The visit to Onyx FC, who were founded in 2021, was the latest showcase of the club’s ongoing and unwavering support for women’s football and female participation. It underlined the club's effort to continue to learn and understand the challenges in the women’s game.

It followed swiftly after the launch of the club’s Be The Inspiration campaign in September 2022 – a call to action for supporters everywhere to join us on our journey of continuing the development of the women's game.
