Douglas Luiz hailed an “important” win for Aston Villa after they saw off Burnley at Villa Park.
The club moved up to second in the Premier League with a 3-2 victory on Saturday, guaranteeing them a place in the top three to start 2024.
Luiz was happy to have come through December in good shape after a punishing schedule.
“It was so important for us because we didn’t play so well in the last two games,” he said.
“If we can win at home it’s so important for the fans.”
Luiz added: “The group is very tired and now we have a few days off to enjoy.
“There are so many important players who have injuries and it’s hard but you need to keep going.”
Luiz kept his cool to score the decisive goal against the Clarets, netting a penalty in the final minutes of normal time.
And the Brazilian says the squad will keep pushing in the new year.
He said: “Everyone is so happy.
“We believe in the group, we believe in Unai and we know he has so much experience.
“Everyone is happy and we need to keep going and continue.”
