Villa made a bright start on the south coast and threatened early on when Luka Lynch cut in from the right and saw his effort tipped onto the post.
Wilson, who bagged a hat-trick in last weekend’s 4-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur, was in the right place at the right time to put the visitors ahead after 18 minutes.
Travis Patterson drifted out to the right-hand side and cut back on his left foot before shooting at goal. Josh Jeffries couldn’t hold his effort and Wilson pounced to net the rebound.
Charlie Pavey was next to try his luck as Villa continued to dominate, calling Jeffries into a sprawling save as he drove an effort across goal.
Defensively, the away side were putting their bodies on the line to protect ‘keeper Sam Proctor, ensuring he wasn’t seriously tested in the first half.
The flow of Villa attacks continued after the restart as Ben Broggio, Lynch and Wilson threatened to score their team’s second.
With nine minutes remaining, the away side had breathing space.
Calum Moreland broke up a Saints attack and released Pavey on the left. The winger took a touch before rolling the ball across goal to leave Wilson with a simple tap-in.
Broggio had a shot cleared off the line as Villa finished strongly to wrap up consecutive wins.
