Internationals: McGinn fires Scotland to victory

John McGinn produced a man-of-the-match performance to inspire Scotland to a 3-0 victory over Ukraine on Wednesday night.

The Aston Villa midfielder, wearing the captain’s armband for his country, fired Scotland into the lead with a fine finish in the 70^th minute at Hampden Park.

McGinn has now scored 14 goals and assisted a further six in his 35 games for Scotland under boss Steve Clarke - at least 10 more than any other player in that time.

A late Lyndon Dykes brace then secured all three points for the Tartan Army in their Nations League encounter, having suffered World Cup play-off heartache against Ukraine earlier this summer.

Victory leaves Scotland top of Group B1, two points clear of Ukraine with two matches remaining, heading into Saturday’s crucial encounter against the Republic of Ireland.
