Tyrone Mings is focused on continuing Aston Villa’s momentum at Leicester City on Saturday and adding a level of consistency to positive performances and results.

Villa registered an impressive display against Manchester City last weekend to claim a 1-1 draw and a hard-earned point against the Premier League champions.

Centre-back Mings was delighted to see Villa get the reward they deserved for another solid display against one of the league’s ‘top six’, something that was not always the case last term.

And he is keen to try and build upon that point at King Power Stadium, although he knows it won’t be easy against a Foxes side who remain high in quality despite having struggled for results in the opening six matches.

“Leicester are going through a tough period as well, so it certainly won’t be a formality to turn up there and win a game of football – as it never is in the Premier League,” Mings told VillaTV.

“For sure, we have to try and continue the momentum that we’re trying to build and not pay too much attention to what’s going on externally and the noise that’s going on around Leicester; they’ve still got very good players, they’ve still got a very good manager.

“It seems like a very together club, but obviously as we’ve known here as well, it’s difficult when things aren’t going so well.

“So, it’ll be a good challenge, it’s important for us to try and continue the momentum but, at the same time, to be wary and respectful of the players they’ve got.”

Steven Gerrard’s well-organised side showed an abundance of spirit, heart, energy and, crucially, concentration to restrict a dominant City side before going on to claim a share of the spoils.

Villa twice ran City close last season and will gain confidence from their first point against them since 2015, ending a run of nine successive defeats in their last meetings in all competitions.

Asked whether that performance has set a marker the team can build upon moving forward, Mings replied: “I hope so.

“I don’t think we ever struggle with good performances in times of need, I think we struggle with consistency.

“That’s something, individually, we have to get to. It’s something I’m working on, it’s something I feel I’m getting to.

“But, also as a team, you have to find some level of consistency that brings a consistent standard of results as well.

“We’re not there yet but, of course, we’re trying.”
