Leon Bailey saluted Aston Villa's supporters and the special Villa Park atmosphere after claiming a positive point against Manchester City.

The Jamaica international forward, having enjoyed an impressive pre-season, netted his second goal of the campaign to secure a share of the spoils against the reigning Premier League champions.

His sweeping finish sent the home faithful wild and a raucous crowd applauded Steven Gerrard’s side from the pitch at the full-time whistle.

“First of all, I should say, it felt great and amazing to see Villa Park light up again,” Bailey told VillaTV post-match.

“We’ve missed that feeling, the last game didn’t go so well.

“That was the best feeling of all for me; to see the stands, everybody was on their feet, it’s what we need to score more goals as well and give us confidence."

He continued: “That goal was a special one.

“I have to congratulate Jacob Ramsey on that outstanding run he did to pick me out.

“I’m just grateful I could help the team.”

Well-organised Villa ended a run of back-to-back defeats with the point against City, displaying plenty of pride, spirit and energy to contain their high-flying visitors before equalising with a moment of quality.

Bailey admitted “it felt like a win” and insists Villa need to take that confidence forward into their coming Premier League fixtures.

“Everybody, not just the players, the fans needed that energy back again,” he added.

“And I think we gave that to them, I think we gave ourselves a lot of confidence again to move forward in the next coming games and build from this.”
