Steven Gerrard has received mixed injury news ahead of Aston Villa’s Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest on Monday.

Right-back Matty Cash is back in full training and in contention to return against his former employers at The City Ground, with fellow defender Calum Chambers also currently on course to make his comeback.

However, left-back Ludwig Augustinsson has been ruled out for around three weeks having sustained a hamstring injury in last weekend’s draw at Leeds United.

Villa will also assess forward Leon Bailey, who has picked up a small muscle injury.

Head coach Gerrard continues to be without Lucas Digne (heel), Boubacar Kamara (knee) and Diego Carlos (Achilles).

“Matty Cash is back in full training and available for Nottingham Forest,” said Gerrard at Thursday afternoon’s pre-match press conference.

“Calum Chambers did half a session today and he’ll continue to pick training up from now until Monday, so he’s got a decent chance of being involved as well.

“Ludwig will be out for probably around three weeks, he’s got a hamstring injury on the back of the Leeds game.

“We’ve also got Leon Bailey, who’s got a small muscle issue so he’s a doubt for Monday but he’s not totally ruled out.

“In terms of Lucas Digne, it’s a complicated one that’s going to rumble on for a few more weeks before we can assess it.

“So we’ll have some news in a couple of weeks but he won’t be available for Forest.”
