Matty Cash hailed a “brilliant” Aston Villa victory to head into the World Cup break.
Villa showed superb spirit to come from behind and secure all three points having conceded inside the opening minute at the Amex Stadium.
Danny Ings levelled from the penalty spot before doubling his tally for the afternoon with a well-taken finish after the break.
It secured Villa’s maiden away victory of the season and ensured Unai Emery has collected maximum points from his first two Premier League matches as the top-flight takes a six-week hiatus for the World Cup in Qatar.
“It was a really good win,” Cash told VillaTV.
“We had to be resilient, we defended the box really well and we had to do it quite a lot in the second half because, as we know, Brighton are a really good side at dominating the ball.
“It’s something we’ve worked really hard at in the last few weeks and we’ve shown it here, which is always nice to do out on the pitch rather than on the training pitch.
“Brilliant result.”
Cash added: “We showed really good character to come back at a difficult place to come and I thought the boys were brilliant.
“As I say, defending the box in this game is one of the most vital things to do if you want to get three points here, and we did it really well.
“So, we’re delighted we’ve picked up three points going into the break.”
Victory comes on the back of Villa’s 3-1 success over Manchester United at Villa Park last weekend.
Seventh-placed Brighton went into the clash having won their last three matches in all competitions and had tasted just one defeat on home soil this term.
Reflecting on back-to-back wins under new boss Emery, right-back Cash added: “It’s fantastic. One home and one away, against two really good sides
“It’s a building block and I think, in this league, if you want to climb the table you need to be really hard to beat and we need to keep doing stuff like that – putting in hard graft and let the forward players do the finishing.
“Really good result away from home.”
