GALLERY: Villa defeat United in Emery's maiden match

Unai Emery's reign as Aston Villa head coach got underway with a superb 3-1 victory over Manchester United at Villa Park.

The Spaniard, who enjoyed his first week in the Villa hot seat, saw his side get off to a dream start as Leon Bailey drilled home a seventh-minute opener before Lucas Digne's excellent free-kick doubled the hosts' advantage shortly afterwards.

Jacob Ramsey's unfortunate own goal saw United handed a route back into the encounter on the stroke of half-time, but the Academy graduate slammed home Villa's third early in the second half to wrap up all three points.

The triumph was Villa's first on home soil over United in the Premier League since August 1995, ending a run of 23 matches without a home league success.
