Aston Villa Women resume league action this weekend when they take on Liverpool at Prenton Park.

Carla Ward's side will face the newly-promoted Reds in their final game before the November international break.

Sunday afternoon's battle follows a difficult run for Villa.

They haven't won inside 90 minutes since September and will be wanting to arrest that slide against Matt Beard's side.

Though points will be the main priority at this stage of the season, Ward and co. will have been encouraged by the overall display at Kingsmeadow last weekend.

Sunday's game will be streamed live on the FA Player, with tickets also available to buy using the link below.

Sunday's opponents are Liverpool.

The newly-promoted hosts began life back in the top flight with a bang, toppling champions Chelsea at Prenton Park on opening day.

Although Matt Beard's side haven't won a league game since, they have performed admirably against many of the league's best sides.

Two victories in the Conti Cup won't have done the team's confidence any harm, either.

And with Ward experiencing a tight battle against the same opponent during last season's cup, it won't be lost on the boss that this weekend's affair is set to be a cagey one.

The Last Meeting

Villa Women picked up a point in last season's Conti Cup opener when these two sides most recently met.

Shania Hayles bagged her first goal of 2021/22 inside three minutes, before Leanne Kiernan equalised for Matt Beard's side in the second half.

Both sides searched for a winner inside 90 minutes, but it was Liverpool who won 5-4 on penalties to take the extra point.

Carla Ward confirmed a lengthy injury list ahead of Sunday's visit to Liverpool.

Meaghan Sargeant (back), Remi Allen (knee), Emily Gielnik (calf), Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah (knee), Simone Magill (knee) and Ruesha Littlejohn (foot) remain out.

Gielnik and Littlejohn could return after this month's international break, though.

Elsewhere, Evie Rabjohn has been ruled out with a fresh ankle injury.

The Boss

“They started really well against Chelsea on the opening day. [Matt Beard] is a great guy, great coach. He knows how to get his team ready for games, it’ll be a difficult afternoon. We’ve got to keep focusing on what we do well.”
