Aston Villa supporters can watch ‘Super Villans’ on BT Sport on Wednesday night as celebrations continue to mark the 40th anniversary of the club’s European Cup triumph.
Super Villans is the latest documentary from the award-winning BT Sport Films series and will air on Wednesday, May 18 at 10.30pm on BT Sport 1.
The film, a light-hearted and exuberant journey through the late ‘70s and early ‘80s featuring music, animations and archive reminiscent of the era, is narrated by Villa fan and renowned actor Mark Williams.
Super Villans tells the story of how the club rose to become European champions, toppling Bayern Munich in Rotterdam to secure the biggest prize in club football, just 12 months after lifting the First Division title for the first time in 71 years.
With contributions from Villa captain Dennis Mortimer and many of his team-mates during the two seasons, including Des Bremner and Nigel Spink, the documentary uncovers one of the most remarkable journeys ever witnessed in England football as the club rose from Third Division football to European champions in the space of a decade.
The film also pays tribute to the extraordinary achievements of Ron Saunders, Tony Barton and the Villa team that defied expectations in a story of passion, drama and triumph.
The documentary will be a further addition to the anniversary celebrations of the club and the players’ own AV40 project that was launched in August 2020.
