Ollie Watkins is keen to help Aston Villa finish the season on a high after getting back to winning ways against Norwich City.

The Villa and England international bagged his ninth Premier League goal of the season – and 100th club career goal – in Saturday’s 2-0 triumph over the Canaries.

Victory moved Villa on to 40 points and up to 13th in the Premier League table, three points off the top 10 with games in hand.

And Watkins is determined to help Villa try and finish with a flourish.

“It’s a win that we needed,” he told VillaTV.

“We were on a bad run of form previously so it’s nice that we’ve got three points now.

“And we just need to keep pushing and look for a top-10 finish.”

Danny Ings provided the assist for Watkins’ 41st-minute opener, before getting on the scoresheet himself in injury time.

It was Ings’ sixth goal of the campaign, and Watkins hopes they can both add to their respective tallies over the final five matches.

“I think looking back at the start of the season, me and Ingsy probably would have thought we’d have had a lot more goals,” he added.

“But it’s definitely a partnership that can work.

“I think we’ve been unfortunate, I’m not making any excuses, we’ve had inconsistent performances.

“But that’s football and these last five games we can push on, hopefully get a lot more goals and push up the table.”
