A number of Aston Villa players will be in action during the international period in March.

There are crucial World Cup play-off matches taking place, with final spots for the 2022 tournament in Qatar up for grabs, as well as a host of international friendlies and more.

England

Ollie Watkins

Ollie Watkins has been called up by England for their forthcoming friendlies against Switzerland and Ivory Coast.

The striker has been added to Gareth Southgate’s squad, joining Aston Villa captain Tyrone Mings, for the Three Lions' double-header at Wembley.

The Villa duo will look to help England to victory as they face Switzerland on Saturday, March 26 (5.30pm) before entertaining Ivory Coast on Tuesday, March 29 (ko 7.45pm).

Scotland

John McGinn Scotland

John McGinn’s Scotland will take on Matty Cash and Poland in a friendly at Hampden Park on Thursday, March 24 (ko 7.45pm), with the Scots’ World Cup play-off match against Ukraine delayed for three months.

Scotland will then play either Austria or Wales in another friendly on Tuesday, March 29 (ko 7.45pm).

Poland

Matty Cash

Matty Cash has been named in the Poland squad as they bid to qualify for the tournament in Qatar.

Poland will face either Robin Olsen's Sweden or Czech Republic in their play-off final on Tuesday, March 29 (ko 7.45pm) for a place at the World Cup.

In the build-up to the qualifier, Cash and Poland will face McGinn’s Scotland in a friendly at Hampden Park on Thursday, March 24 (ko 7.45pm).

Sweden

Robin Olsen

Robin Olsen and Sweden host Czech Republic in their play-off semi-final on Thursday, March 24 (ko 7.45pm) as they look to move one step closer to the World Cup tournament in Qatar. 

Should they progress, Sweden will face Poland in the play-off final on Tuesday, March 29 (ko 7.45pm). 

Brazil

Philippe Coutinho, Brazil.

Philippe Coutinho will link up with Brazil for the final matches of their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign.

Tite’s unbeaten team are top of the South American section and have already qualified for the tournament ahead of games against Chile on Thursday, March 24 (ko 11.30pm) and Bolivia on Wednesday, March 30 (ko 12.30am).

France

Lucas Digne

Villa left-back Lucas Digne is in the France squad for their friendly fixtures against Ivory Coast and South Africa.

Les Bleus, for whom Digne won the 2021 UEFA Nations League, face Ivory Coast on Friday, March 25 (ko 8.15pm) and South Africa on Tuesday, March 29 (ko 8.15pm).

Jamaica

Leon Bailey

Leon Bailey has been named in Jamaica's squad for their World Cup qualifying triple-header.

The Reggae Boyz, who can no longer qualify for the tournament, are at home to El Salvador on Thursday, March 24 (ko 11.05pm), before a trip to Canada on Sunday, March 27 (ko 9.05pm) and then round off their campaign with a home clash against Honduras on Thursday, March 31 (ko 2.05am).

Burkina Faso

Bertrand Traoré

Bertrand Traoré has been included in Burkina Faso's squad for their friendlies against Kosovo and Belgium.

The Stallions, who suffered semi-final heartbreak at the recent Africa Cup of Nations, face Kosovo on Thursday, March 24 (ko 5pm) and Belgium on Tuesday, March 29 (ko 7.45pm).

Egypt

Trézéguet

Trézéguet, who is currently on loan at İstanbul Başakşehir, has been named in the Egypt squad for their crucial World Cup play-off matches against Senegal.

The Pharaohs, having fallen to a penalty shoot-out defeat against Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations final, renew rivalries on home soil on Friday, March 25 (ko 7.30pm) before the second leg away on Tuesday, March 29 (ko 6pm).

Republic of Ireland

Conor Hourihane

Conor Hourihane, on loan at Sheffield United, has been named in the Republic of Ireland squad for their friendlies against Belgium and Lithuania.

Ireland host world No.1 ranked side Belgium on Saturday, March 26 (ko 5pm) and then Lithuania on Tuesday, March 29 (ko 7.45pm).

Young Lions

Jacob Ramsey

There have also been a number of call-ups at age-group level for several young Villans. 

Jacob Ramsey will join up with England Under-21s for European Championship qualifiers against Andorra and Albania, while Viljami Sinisalo has been selected by Finland Under-21s for a friendly against Romania and a qualifier versus Croatia. 

Republic of Ireland have named Tyreik Wright in their Under-21 squad for a qualifier against Sweden. 

Kaine Kesler Hayden link up with the Three Lions Under-20 squad to play Germany and Poland. 

Tim Iroegbunam, Carney Chukwuemeka and Aaron Ramsey have games against Republic of Ireland, Armenia and Portugal to look forward to with England Under-19s. 

Kerr Smith will get together with Scotland's Under-19s for their fixtures against Turkey, Hungary and Israel, while Oliwier Zych will link up with Poland's Under-19 squad for a training camp and matches against Switzerland.

Omari Kellyman will join Northern Ireland's Under-19s for fixtures against Norway, Belgium and Czech Republic.

There are two Young Lions in England's Under-17 squad for European Championship qualifiers against Luxembourg and France after Jayden Barber and Josh Feeney were called up.
