Aston Villa have teamed up with the No.1 independent fantasy football site during the 2021/22 season.

Fantasy Football Scout provide regular reports packed with hints and tips to help you, hopefully, move into the top tier of fantasy football management.

With the season now in the middle of a winter break, we've taken a look back at the season so far…

Since the appointment of Steven Gerrard heading into Gameweek 12, Aston Villa have recorded 15 Premier League points and put themselves firmly on the radar of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers.

The Fantasy Football Scout Season Ticker has Aston Villa top over the next five Gameweeks and, with two postponed fixtures still to be rearranged, the Villans will be key transfer targets. New signings Lucas Digne (£5.1m) and Philippe Coutinho (£7.0m) make up two of the top three transfers in ahead of Gameweek 24. Looking back at performances since Gerrard’s arrival highlights why their popularity is building.

Since Gameweek 12, Ollie Watkins (£7.7m) has returned three goals and one assist. This is more than highly owned FPL assets such as Michail Antonio (£7.9m), Romelu Lukaku (£11.5m) and Josh King (£5.9m)

Watkins also ranks fourth amongst forwards for touches in the final third, managing 202 in this period.

At just £4.6m, Jacob Ramsey is playing like a midfielder worth double his FPL price tag. He leads the Villa midfield for expected goals (xG) between Gameweeks 12 and 23, as well as registering 276 touches in the final third. Ramsey has returned two double-digit hauls in the last five matches, registering 28 points.

When deciding on who to purchase, one key underlying stat for FPL managers is the number of chances that the players are creating. Aston Villa have created 88 chances from the ten games during Gerrard’s tenure.

These chances are being created across the team, meaning that there is huge potential for investment throughout the Villa squad, as well as being excellent for potential goals and therefore FPL points.

The Villans have kept three clean sheets since his arrival - only five teams have kept more and two of those have played more often. Emiliano Martinez (£5.5m) has recorded 27 saves during these matches, adding five save points for his managers.

The defenders are also regularly registering attacking returns. They have returned four goals and four assists under the new head coach and, between them, have recorded 489 touches in the final third. This attacking potential makes the likes of Matty Cash (£5.1m) and Digne excellent options for the second half of the FPL season.
